How long have they been operating? PDF Print E-mail

So how long have the markets been in operation???

Our Markets have been in operation since the mid 1980's when they were conducted in the small carpark of the Community Hall on the Thomas Street side.

Originally created by Di and Gary Boyd of Hannam Vale, the markets went on to be the large success they are today.

Following Di and Gary, Marian Heath and Bev Yates took over the reigns and expanded the reach of the markets with new items and stallholders.

Now in their 25th year, the markets regularly boast approx 80 stall holders which now fill the oval and inside the hall.

The markets have been under the control of the Reserve Trust for the past 15 years, who operate the Kitchen and Barbeque, with all profits being used to look after the hall and reserve.

We have a very wide and varied range of stalls at the markets ranging fresh local fruit and vegetables to beautifully created handmade arts and crafts. Our location is in the central part of Johns River and the perfectly flat recreation oval makes walking around the markets very easy and pleasurable. We also cater for the little ones with a new playground, which is covered to protect them from exposure to the sun. Our village has now been bypassed with minimal traffic passing through, which adds that extra level of safety for children playing in the playground. From the markets perspective, there is an added aire of peace and quite so you can relax whilst shopping or enjoying our world famous Devonshire teas and coffees.

Our markets are called the 'friendly markets' (we hear this from our stallholders and visitors). We don't charge high market rents for stallholder sites and our food/refreshments are reasonably priced. If you are interested in becoming a stallholder at the markets, please click here to send us an email about yourself and what you would like to promote on your stall. We will come back to you within 48 hours with details on the costs and requirements for becoming a stall holder. We are always looking for new stallholders.
